History of penicillin

The history of penicillin began during the first World War. Alexander Fleming, who is credited with inventing penicillin, became known as the father of penicillin in the history of penicillin. Penicillin revolutionized the world of medicine.

What is penicillin?

Penicillin is an antibiotic drug used to treat infection. Prior to this discovery of penicillin, the antiseptics and antibiotics that existed killed bacteria, but they also destroyed human tissue as well. Because of this, they were useful only on surface wounds, and in wartime, surface wounds were much less of a concern than much more serious internal injuries.

What inspired Alexander Fleming to discover penicillin? Alexander Fleming, a bacteriologist when he volunteered for duty in the British army's medical corps in 1914. He was horrified by the sight of so many men painfully enduring deep wounds crawling with bacteria and dismayed by his own inability to eradicate the germs without harming the wounded men.
