The letters B.C.E. after a date stand for " before the Common Era" or before the year I.

What does C.E. mean?

The letter C.E. mean "Common Era" or from the year I to now. After the year 1000, we drop C.E. and just use the date.

Some people say B.C. meaning "before Christ". Some people use A.D. or anno Domini meaning "in the year of the Lord".

Uses of C.E. and B.C.E. in a text
